This Committee considers security and justice issues and global issues affecting BIPA jurisdictions.
The policy areas of the March 2025 Joint Statement falling within its remit are:
- UK-Ireland political relations;
- Foreign policy and security issues;
- Justice issues;
- Maritime security;
- Cyber security;
- The Common Travel Area
Issues of immigration and asylum also fall within the committee’s remit.

Membership
The Committee is made up of:
— six members each from the delegations of the UK Parliament and the Houses of the Oireachtas;
— six members drawn from the delegations of the devolved and Channel Island legislatures.
Since the committee no longer deals exclusively with sovereign matters, BIPA delegations other than those of the two sovereign parliaments are entitled to nominate members to the committee.
